Hand washing experiment

This afternoon we had a discussion about the importance of washing our hands properly then we started a little experiment to see what happens to food when we touch it with dirty hands.

We had 3 slices of bread. The first slice was carefully put inside a plastic food bag without anybody's hands touching it. The second slice was put into a bag after I washed my hands. The third slice was passed around for the children to touch with unwashed hands and then put inside a bag.

We had a little chat about germs being so small that we can't see them and even though all three slices look the same in the bags the children think that the third slice has got the most germs on it from all of their hands. We will have to wait and see what happens to the three slices over the next few weeks.

Salad tasting

This afternoon we went to the school kitchen. Michelle, the cook, showed us around and told us all about the different foods we might see on the salad bar at lunch time. We even got to try some of them and some of us tried new foods that we hadn't tasted before. Tomorrow, at lunch time, the salad bar is going to be very popular!

Fun in the rain

Today has been very wet but that hasn't stopped us from having lots of fun outside. We put on our waterproofs and wellies and went splashing in the puddles. If your child hasn't got their own pair of wellies in school yet please bring some in and make sure they have their name in them.

Home school diaries and reading books.

Today the children have all come home with their first reading book. At the moment all children have chosen a story book for you to read with them and throughout the year we will move them onto the various stages of books. Please return the book and diary every day in your child's purple bag. Books will be changed each time an adult has signed the diary to say the book has been read. If they manage to read at least 3 times a week they will earn a point towards their golden ticket!

PE

Today was our first PE lesson all together. The children got themselves changed and then we headed down to the hall. We are trying hard to think about using all of the space in the hall and we played a few games to help the children with spacial awareness. We are also finding lots of different ways of moving which is lots of fun!

Please remember that we will be doing PE every Monday morning so if your child has pierced ears their earrings must be removed before school or they will not be able to take part. Thank you.

Welcome!

It's the start of another year and I would like to welcome you to Class RS's blog!

This is where you can see all of the things that the children have been doing in school. I will share photographs and videos of exciting things that have happened so that the children can share their school experiences with you! I will also post any information I feel relevant to you regarding the school year and importance notices.

I'm looking forward to spending the year with the children and getting to know them all. I hope you enjoy looking at this blog and you are welcome to leave comments on any of the posts. Please be aware that all comments are closely monitored.
