Welcome back!

I hope you all had a lovely half term. We have had a great first week back. This half term we are going to be thinking all about different types of food. This week we discussed what we like and don't like to eat and which foods are healthy for us. We have also turned our role play area into a restaurant.

Next week we are going to be thinking all about vegetables. We are planning to make vegetable soup in school on Tuesday. If possible, we would like each child to bring in a vegetable, either on Monday or Tuesday, for us to put into our soup.

Have a lovely weekend!

Chinese food tasting

Today we have been thinking about Chinese food and then we had the chance to try some. We had some noodles, some vegetable rice and some prawn crackers. Then we had to try and use chopsticks to eat it! It was a bit tricky at first but we got the hang of it and ate it all up.

Chinese writing

This week we are learning all about China as it is the start of Chinese New Year. Today we had a go at writing Happy New Year in Chinese using thin paint brushes and black paint. It was very tricky but the children concentrated very hard and tried their best to copy the shapes and lines.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you on Friday for our Chinese New Year Activity day!

Pancake day

This morning the children were very excited as it is pancake day! We spoke about why we have pancake day and that it is also called Shrove Tuesday and that it is the day before Lent begins. We also made some pancakes so that we could eat them! We could have lemon, sugar or both on our pancakes and they were really yummy!

We have had a fantastic 2 weeks learning all about under the sea and the children have produced some amazing artwork. I wanted to share with you the models that the children have brought in from home because I am so impressed with them!

We have also been very busy in school and here is some of the artwork we have been doing. Watch out for the giant octopus!

A visit from some furry friends

Yesterday we had a special visitor in our class. A vet came to see us and she even brought some animals with her. She told us all about what vets have to wear and she let one child dress up in the uniform. Then she showed us some guinea pigs and a rabbit! We all got to have a stroke and to hold them if we wanted to, they were very friendly and fluffy. She also said that sometimes they get lizards at the vets. She showed us what they eat. We saw some crickets and some mealworms. We didn't open the cricket box just in case they escaped but if we wanted to we could hold the mealworms. They were very wriggly and tickled a bit. Today we have done some writing all about pets.
